Transitioning To A New Food

Changing the Menu: A Gentle Guide to Switching Pet Food

Switching your furry friend to a new food can feel a little overwhelming, but with patience and the right approach, it can be a smooth (and even enjoyable!) process. Just like us, pets can be creatures of habit, and sudden changes don’t always sit well with their tummies — or their taste buds. That’s why it’s important to take things slowly, giving their digestive system time to adjust and helping them feel comfortable with the new flavors and textures. A gentle transition not only supports their health, but also makes mealtime something they’ll look forward to.

Whenever you are introducing a new pet food or protein, you should have some slippery elm, Adored Beast Gut Soothe, Adored Beast Feline Gut Soothe or Dr. Harvey’s Runs Be Done on hand for tummy upset.

Nutritional yeast can help prevent digestive upset when switching your pet to a new diet. Adding nutritional yeast to your dogs diet can increase the protective antibodies in the stool and help keep the gut bacteria more stable during diet change. You can order Nutritional Yeast.

Do the transition slowly replacing 10% of the old food with the new food over a 7-10 day period. If stool remains firm, increase the percentage.

How To Transition To New Food

  1. Slowly replace 10% of the old food with current food over 7-10 days.
  2. If stool is firm, increase %. Only increase once stool is normal.
  3. Continue increase in 10% increments until fully transitioned.
  4. If stool becomes soft, decrease to previous % until fully transitioned.
  5. Give slippery elm, Adored Beast Gut Soothe, Adored Beast Feline Gut Soothe or Dr. Harvey’s Runs Be Done  for loose stool, diarrhea and vomiting.
  6. Adding a small amount of nutritional yeast can also help prevent digestive upset.
